Warami/Guwi… Highforest is on Dharug Ngurra.
Dharug Ngurra spans from the Blue Mountains in the west and the sea to the east, from the Hawkesbury River in the north to possibly Appin in the south.
This place is home to the Bidjigal people, one of many clans that make up the Dharug mob. The Dharug people cared for this land passing on knowledge and culture through the wisdom of their ancestors.
Ngurra encompasses the physical landscape together with the spiritual, cultural, and social identity of the Dharug people. They believe Ngurra is a source of healing, strength, and well-being that we must respect and preserve for ourselves and for future generations.
Colonisation almost wiped out the Dharug people through violence and conflict, disease, and displacement. This has resulted in the loss of cultural knowledge, language, and identity for many.
We acknowledge that many Dharug people and their descendants have survived and continue to maintain their cultural heritage and connection to Ngurra.
By walking on this Ngurra, we connect with its ancient spirit. May you be inspired to embrace and respect this place and the cultural diversity that enriches us and leave with a deeper connection to this beautiful and sacred Ngurra.
